01 · Fill from the drawing

Point inside a room. It is an area.

The space is read off the drawing's own line work and shown before you click. Door openings and walls that stop short still close the room; columns, voids and stairs are cut out, small symbols filled over. The outline is fitted back onto the drawing, edge to line and corner to corner.

02 · Symbol search

Box one symbol. Count every copy.

Drag a box round a door, a column, a diffuser, a sprinkler head or a light and every copy on the sheet, a range of sheets or the whole set is found off the line work - turned copies by default, mirrored and resized ones when asked. They become counts under a tag in one undo.

03 · Viewports

Several scales on one sheet

Drag a box round the 1:20 plant room beside the 1:100 plan, name it and pick its scale, or calibrate it against a known distance inside it. A measurement inside a viewport is taken at its scale; changing the scale re-measures everything in it at once. Viewports never print unless you ask.

04 · Cut-outs

Net areas, holes and all

Select an area and click round the riser, void or plinth that is not part of it. The label, the list, Totals, the CSV and the volume all take the hole off, and the perimeter counts the hole's edge too. Give an area a depth and it reports volume.

Questions

About takeoff.

Can I measure straight off the CAD linework?

Yes. Snapping latches onto the PDF's own lines: ends, midpoints, intersections, perpendiculars, and the centres and quadrants of circles and arcs. On a synthetic 150,000-segment sheet a snap query takes about 50 µs.

Can one sheet have more than one scale?

Yes. Drag a viewport round the 1:20 detail beside the 1:100 plan; a measurement inside it is taken at its scale. Viewports are saved inside the PDF as standard measurement viewports, so other apps measure at the same scale.

Can it fill a room and find every symbol?

Yes. Point inside a room and the area is read off the drawing's line work, closing door openings and cutting out columns. Box one symbol and every copy on the sheet or set is found and counted.

How do quantities get out?

A Totals dialog, CSV of every markup, and a spreadsheet (.xlsx) whose totals are SUMIFS formulas - so a quantity corrected in the spreadsheet carries through.
